early on December 6, 2004 in Auburn, CA.
Edgar was a good fish who graduated from a 20 gallon tank to a 40
gallon tank and quickly expanded to fill his surroundings, growing a
nice size of 8-10 inches. He showed the two other fish in his tank
who was boss and they would frequently hide in sections of the tank
away from him.
Edgar survived at least one case of ick, a white fungus like disease,
pronounced just like it sounds. He started getting a disease known as
hole in the head in which an actual hole develops in his head. And
yes, he needed that like a hole in his head. Not much is known about
hole in the head disease, other than it is caused by stress. Yes,
Edgar appears to have been stressed. Swimming around a tank doesn't
appear to be too stressful, so it was probably due to tank conditions
and that, in cleaning the tank, Quizwedge (his owner) tried touching him,
scaring him quite some bit. Unfortunately, Quizwedge hasn't had the time to
properly care for the tank. Edgar appeared to have been getting
better, but that last day, when Quizwedge was cleaning the tank and touched
him, he started acting really crazy and hadn't been eating for a few
days. One thing Quizwedge and Edgar share in common is that rarely does a
day go by that they don't munch on food.
On the lack of time and passing of Edgar, Mark B (a friend of Quizwedge) could be heard
muttering, "I told Quizwedge that getting a girlfriend would bring him
trouble." Quizwedge's girlfriend, Christy, was heard saying, "See!?!? Why
is it always MY fault? Why am I always the one in trouble?"
Edgar was survived by his owner, Quizwedge, and two other fish in his tank.
As we mourn the passing of Edgar to that big fish tank in the sky, we
smile at all of the fun he was in gobbling up little fish while we
tried to decide which one would last the longest.
In leiu of flowers, Edgar, being a fan of water, would probably prefer
that you make a donation to the Monterey Bay Aquarium at

prefer that you sign up for one of the free offers over at

Burial was a private affiar at Quizwedge's place. The final resting
place is unknown, but might be Placer-Auburn displosal.
And for those that haven't figured it out yet... while Edgar, my pet
fish really did die, this obituary is tongue-in-cheek. Edgar was a really cool fish, but he
was still just a fish and I'll probably get another one in about a
month when work calms down.
