Recently, a 16 yr. old female went missing. According to local media sources, she was "a cheerleader at small town highschool". Her mother thinks that perhaps she ran off with her boyfriend. So the local news shows the mother, crying, in front of "small town highschool". My question: so if you're just a smalltown, white cheerleader, and perhaps not getting along with your mom, and you decide to run off with your boyfriend, then what makes you not eligible for the Amber Alert? It seems to me that a missing 16 yr. old is potentially in danger any time she or he is missing, especially since, in this case, she is not of legal age?
Could it be that we use the Amber Alert selectively? That we have certain restrictions on what "endangered" means? I just wonder what the guidelines should be for including troubled teens who run away from home.
