Toys More Secure than Fort Knox - News at 11!

Okay, maybe it was a mistake to lead off the day with the Jakarta Earthquake as each story I post seems more unimportant than the last. But I can't not post this one! Anyone who has bought a toy for a little friend (or themselves) in the last 5 years has come face-to-face with a terrifying truth of modern packaging - most toys today are packaged for secure shipping and secure display... which means it is now easier to get mind-altering drugs out of a child-proofed medicine bottle than it is to get a toy cell phone out of its packaging. The New York Times has up a story on one parent's struggle to unpackage this year's newest tickle-me/dance-with-me/speak-with-me/do-differential-equations-with-me Elmo. It used to be parents swore putting toys together on Christmas night (after Santa brought them, of course). Today, they swear on Christmas morning, trying to open them up. Progress, I guess.
