Two years ago, I recieved what I thought was a gag gift: a rear view mirror for my monitor. Ha-hah. I laughed and put it by my desk while I figured out whether to throw it away or regift it. Well, I actually sit right by the elevator on the executive floor of my company. Suddenly, I found myself checking the mirror regularly for early warning when the CIO or a nameless-but-very-agitated VP was coming by. Soon, it became an invaluable defensive weapon in my ongoing battle to look good in the eyes of the higher-ups.
This is highly recommended for anyone on your list who lives in cubicle land. It is too easy to sneak up on office trolls these days, and we need to find our early warning systems. (At least until someday in the future when "offices" with "doors" come back into vogue. Yeah, I know. Keep dreaming, Nomad.
