According to a new EU study, cell phone radiation - even in the amounts that actual cell phones admit in real-world situations - damage DNA in ways that is inheritable from one generation of cells to another. While such mutated cells are unlikely to bring the X-Men into the real world, they could lead to cancer for heavy cell-phone users. Suddenly, the idea of having both my new SideKick II and my old Kyocera 7135 on my hip at the same time is not so appealing.
Anyone else out there wondering what will happen if cell phone raditation (and thus logically, wireless networking radiation) is shown to have serious health effects? Will society choose to curb our use of wireless radiation, or will we decide that convenience and always-on information retrieval is more important? While I want to say humanity is too smart for that, I can't imagine many of my friends giving up their cell phones for anything. They'd rather die of cancer than have to wait 10 minutes to find out who Joey is dating this week.
