How You Can Never Do Anything Right

President Bush endured a day or so of mindless screams of "He shouldn't be at the ranch! He needs to be out giving press conferences and planning aid!" All of these claims in spite of the fact that there was nothing more he could really do anyway, until there was at least some estimate and therefore, understanding of what was needed from the US. He was supposed to show more empathy yadda yadda. Never mind that most of the people affected by this don't have working TV's right and probably couldn't care any less what the President of the United States had to say. Never mind that.

So what happens? The President decides to take the "lead" that liberals and the UN claim he should have. And guess what? Now, they're not happy about that. So what is it that the US is doing wrong now?
But former International Development Secretary Clare Short said that role should be left to the UN.

“I think this initiative from America to set up four countries claiming to coordinate sounds like yet another attempt to undermine the UN when it is the best system we have got and the one that needs building up,” she said.

“Only really the UN can do that job,” she told BBC Radio Four’s PM programme.

“It is the only body that has the moral authority. But it can only do it well if it is backed up by the authority of the great powers.”

Ms Short said the coalition countries did not have good records on responding to international disasters.

She said the US was “very bad at coordinating with anyone” and India had its own problems to deal with.

“I don’t know what that is about but it sounds very much, I am afraid, like the US trying to have a separate operation and not work with the rest of the world through the UN system,” she added.
So, Miss. Clare Shortonbrains thinks that only the UN has the "moral authority" to perform aid operations? Yes, such moral authority that the UN has shown us in the past two years...

But you know what? Fine. Let's have a complete stop to all American operations attempting to donate food, money, and manpower to the Indian Ocean area. If we don't have the "moral authority" to put together aid, then let's see how well the world handles the crisis without American aid. After all, the UN is the only body qualified to deal with this situation. And we're "very bad at coordinating with anyone." What Miss. Shortonmentalability meant to say was that we were bad at pandering to French and German special interests that saw it as more important to keep making money off of Saadam rather than ending a brutal dictatorship that killed hunreds of thousands. The worse part about her comments are that Miss. Shortonwillpowertotakeonterrorism actually believes that the UN is fit to deal with this. If there's anything we've seen of late, it's that the UN isn't fit for anything but making money for its corrupt partners.
