The left has been foaming at the mouth over talk of a mandate for President Bush. Some say that he actually barely won, other say that the press is obviously a right-wing machine. Personally, I don't think that the President has a "mandate" in any record breaking way. However, not only did he win by a sizeable margin (even though liberals claim he is so hated) but he has also helped his party destroy the Democratic party in Congress for four years now. The incumbent party almost never wins in the mid-term, yet Bush helped the Republicans destroy the Dems in '02. So no, Bush doesn't have an overwhelming mandate. But, the country clearly likes his, and his party's, policies better than the Democrats. Otherwise, he wouldn't have won re-election and his party would now be the minority instead of holding an even larger majority.
