Another Sign of our High Tech Times

In past wars, the great urban legend (except many tales turned out to be true) was of men and women whose lives were saved by a bible over their hearts stopping a bullet. This practice was actually encouraged by the army in World War II when they allowed families to buy Bibles with metal covers for their loved ones overseas. (I actually gave one to Ward for his graduation, but can't seem to find any more on eBay right now for any interested readers.) Well, apparently such stories are modernizing. CNN is reporting a story where a soldier was saved from a bullet by the extra battery he kept around for his MP3 player! I guess he is lucky he didn't have an iPod as it would have used rechargables.

The rest of the story is worth reading as well, as it shows that there are heroic Iraqis working with the American soldiers for a free Iraq. While the soldier in question survived, he would not have if an Iraqi friend had not sacrificed his own life in the process. Our prayers are with the family of this brave Iraqi.
