I Knew Nelson Mandella, And You Are No Nelson Mandella

Well, ok, I didn't really know Nelson Mandella. But you don't need to know him to know that Martha Stewart's likening of herself to him is pretty stupid. He was imprisoned for years for fighting against racism, she's going to spend five months in prison for lying about investments. We're hardly comparing like events here. But this shows our growing American (and probably the rest of the world too) tendency to not consider perspective. Martha's like Nelson, Bush is like Hitler, gays are the biggest danger the US has ever faced, etc. These are baseless comparisons that do injustice to the real heroes and villains of the past. We really need to start being more careful with the use of language or soon, everything we say will be useless. When you misuse meaning, you lose meaning. It's that simple.
