LOTR: Return of the King Extended Edition in Theaters?

The One Ring.Net is reporting that Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Extended Edition may be coming to theaters in October, before a December DVD release. Still, I am not sure I'd want to sit between 4 and 5 theaters for any movie, without an intermission. But for a LOTR film, I might be willing to make an exception.
