Kerry to announce Veep, Nation Yawns

CNN is reporting that Senator John Kerry will announce today who he has chosen for his running mate in the 2004 presidential election. The usual suspects are Senator John Edwards of North Carolina, Representative Dick Gephardt of Missouri and Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack. Though some fringe news agencies still stick to their sources which claim Senator Hillary Clinton of New York (by way of Arkansas) will be the Vice Presidential running mate. My guess? Mr. Gephart will be the one. He brings maturity to the campaign, he is boring enough not to overshadow Kerry on the campaign trail, and yet he has served in the Senate for so long that it is really his turn. Problem is, he has lost everything he has run for in the last 5 years or so, and is likely to extend that streak to Mr. Kerry. But then, I doubt Senator Kerry is thinking that way.

Oh, and while CNN, Matt Drudge, and others appear breathless about the anouncement, do you know any real people who care at all? I don't. Not a good sign, if Mr. Kerry was hoping this announcement would provide a big bump in the polls, since it is likely to make the convention a non-event (the Veep is usually revealed there).
