Vote Switching in West Virgnia

Between these charges and the widespread allegations of voter fraud by ACORN, I am expecting we are in for a rash of after-election lawsuits about the results.
Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week.

This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for "Barack Obama" kept flipping to "John McCain".

In both counties, Republicans are responsible for overseeing elections. Both county clerks said the problem is isolated.

They also blamed voters for not being more careful.

"People make mistakes more than machines," said Jackson County Clerk Jeff Waybright.
I am betting on of the first things the next President/Congress will have to tackle is a way to restore faith in our electoral system. That may require abandoning the electronic machines that they mandated only a few years ago.

  1. Back when they were mandating those things, I know many Mod-Bloggers were skeptical because of how easy it is to hack them.

The new system in CT seems to work well. Paper ballots but an optical scanner, the way they scan SAT's and stuff.

  2. We have optical scan in CA, but I've heard they can be hacked as well. The real problem is that people "need to know" who won that night. There's a reason the electoral college vote isn't for a while... it's to give time to tally up the votes and then get the word out.

  3. Yeah, thing is, we wouldn't know if our votes got switched. We never see a "confirmation" of what the machine recorded. Although, we DO have a backup papertrail for a recount which the touch screen folks don't have.

I prefer the ability to re-count.
