you know, I thought about posting this today and then forgot to finish thinking about it. My reason for buying is that I (1) am legal now and (2) it's a lot easier to find a good copy of the song legally than having to sift through all of the bad rips of the song. I may be naive, but I would think that either (1) no one will be prosecuted for stripping the DRM out of their obsolete collection or (2) the law will change when there is public outcry over the first few people that do get prosecuted.
The thing is the Amazon store has just as many (if not more) artists as iTunes and they're all DRM free. The question is are you going to be legal and bound by DRM with your music or legal and not bound. Either way I think the comic makes some points that the general public (e.g. not geeks) need to think about.
And now there's even more reason to be legal... the newly created Copyright Czar cabinet-level position: http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/10/bush-signs-law.html
I really dislike this comic, but understand why others like it. It is an issue that needs to be discussed. I just hate to see Mod-Blog associated with pirating in any way.
DRM is dying, just as copy protection mostly died in the game arena. But I am hopeful iTMS will do away with it in the next year, which would lead to 100% end of DRM everywhere.

If you think DRM is dying, you haven't been paying attention to Spore.
