What do you want in a (Mac) notebook computer

It's rumor time again, this time it's about an event that Apple is having this week focusing on notebook computers.  With Netbook computers becoming all the rage right now, it seems that Apple might have some catching up to do.  I've been running a G4 iBook for close to 3 years now that, even with RAM upgrades, is dragging a lot so whatever Apple announces this week will be of particular interest to me.  One of the interesting rumors is a sub-$900 (some say sub-$800) notebook.  Since my notebook is my primary computer, power is of importance - though you could question this since I've been running a G4 for 3 years. My question is what do you want out of a notebook computer? Are you looking for a netbook or a desktop replacement or something else?

  1. For me the Aluminum Powerbook G4 most hit my sweet spot. 12 inches, so ultraportable, but with the same processor as the desktop workhorses of their time. My current 13.3 inch MacBook is good, but does not fit quite the same niche.

    I'd like:
    - 12-13 inch screen 16:9 widescreen model
    - Quad Core Chip with powersaving features
    - 200+ GB hard drive
    - 2 GB RAM standard, expandable to 4 GB
    - Support for multiple monitors
    - At least 2 USB ports
    - At least 1 Firewire 400 port
    - Ethernet internet (no dongle!)
    - Mini-DVI connector
    - Multitouch Trackpad
    - Backlit keyboard
    - LED backlit screen

  2. I'd love to have a dual boot OS X / Windows computer (or maybe even triple boot OS X / Windows / Some flavor of Linux) and my laptop is my primary computer. So for me, I'd like what Mark wants with the exception being that I'd rather have a 14 inch non-widescreen capable of 1400 x 1050 resolution. In addition, I love how my current Dell and my old PowerBook Lombard has the ability to run with two batteries. I very rarely need my optical drive and would much rather have two batteries and carry the optical drive when I might need it. Of course, I'd also need it at a price point where it wasn't too much more than a similarly equipped Dell so that I could justify it for work. So, basically, I want the world. :-D
