I don't think so, but apparently there are traces of such a device being found on the net. It certainly is possible that such a device is around, but Jobs doesn't like the category so much. Then again it's possible, to quote Shakespeare "The man protesteth too much". Maybe Jobs is planning on redefining the category, which is something he's known to do.
There is no mystery here. There have been rumors and sightings of ultraportable Macs since the Powerbook Duo days, and there have been table Mac rumors and sightings almost as long. Apple has lots of expertise here and is always researching. I'd be shocked if they do not already have several models ready to go to Production, if needed.
YanıtlaSilBut they WILL NOT debut such a device until they are sure (1) it will be a money maker, and (2) it will NOT cannibalize sales of iPhones or iPods or MacBooks. Right now, there is no way Apple can compete with Linux devices on cost - a $300 unsubsidized ultraportable Mac is unrealistic without trimming critical functions. So they'd have to go high end, which would take sales away from their MacBooks or make a touchscreen interface which would take sales from iPhones/iPods. Until the iPhone is firmly enough ensconced to ensure it can not be dislodged, it ain't gonna happen.
Which probably means at least another year before either an ultraportable Mac or a touchscreen pad Mac hits the market, in my opinion.
Of course, never say. Stevo loves surprising people. But that is how it looks from where I sit.
