I was reading
The Straight Dope website today and one of the questions Cecil Adams answers is "When does human life begin." Adams does not hide the fact that he is pro-choice, but he does believe that life begins before birth. The most interesting thing to me is that he does not believe that rape, incest or birth defect are good reasons to have an abortion. It is interesting to see someone on the pro-choice side who we can find some common ground with.
i've always wondered why those particular exceptions were so universal. i understand that there are psychological stresses that arise as a result of the initiation of the pregnancy in the case of rape or incest, but to me that doesn't represent a reason why a pregnancy needs to be terminated. if the mother honestly doesn't feel that she can handle having the child around, she can always put it up for adoption. yes, i know that means the mother has to live with a daily reminder of the event and that really hurts. I still don't think that it is a good reason to terminate the pregnancy.
YanıtlaSilI agree. It may be 9 months of hell for the mother, but she can give the child life and give it to another couple who will raise it. My sister has an adopted child and it worked out very well. She met her birth mother and was very glad she had been raised in the family she was placed in.
YanıtlaSilI am pro-choice... but the choice is wether or not to take your clothes off.
YanıtlaSilThe fact of rape and/or incest is awful but that shouldn't lead into a death sentence for the baby.
