David Brooks of the New York Times has up an excellent piece on radical Islamists like those who killed the school children in Russia. He notes that since the Western media can not understand these monsters, they resort to euphimism and treat the perpetrators as freedom fighters or separatists or other legitamate revolutionaries. But the fact, he notes, is that these people are simply part of a death cult which worships death and killing, and really sees the acts of murder and suicide as much of an end as a means.
He makes a great point. We have seen plenty of Christian death cults - David Koresh, the Heaven's Gate people, etc. - so why do we have such a hard time seeing that radical Islam is a death cult of its own. How else do you understand the Palestinians, who had almost everything they wanted offered to them at Oslo and instead chose suicide bombings which have increasingly brought them farther and farther from their stated goals?
