Kerry: Going Softly into that Good Night is for LOSERS!

Unlike Al Gore, Bob Dole, George H. W. Bush, Michael Dukakis, and most of the other presidential losers of our time, John Kerry has announced that he is not goint to meekly disappear from politics after his loss/ Looking at more of a Reagan or Nixon mold, Kerry hopes to use the lists of donors and supporters from his 2004 run to actively oppose President George W Bush at every turn, and start raising funds for a 2008 run for president. It is an interesting thought, but the fact that so many presidential losers have left politics has not been because they were meek men eager to leave the spotlight. It is because Americans tend to dislike supporting someone who has run for the top spot, and lost. Then again, it would not be the first time.

And am I the only one who is a little weirded out by so many democrats invoking Nixon these days? Last month, he was the epitomy of all evil. This month, he is a model for a reelection run, a model for how to gracefully accept defeat, and a model for dirty tricksterism. I dunno, but something is wrong here.
