For months (years really) before the election, security and computing experts were warning that electronic voting was not inherently more secure than paper ballots with hanging chads. Well, a serious effort across the country to audit the results of various elections has begun (unrelated to the Ohio recount) and at least one election result has been overturned. In the race noted, a Republican had been counted the winner for county commissioner. Problem was, when checked, it turned out every straight-party-line vote for the democrats had been counted for the Libertarian party. Luckily, there was a paper backup to the system, which allowed a recount.
But what about the systems with no paper trail. Beware. Diebold's paperless voting system is in for dark times.
