Linux Voids Your Warranty

Apparantly, if you buy a Compaq computer from HP that runs Windows and install Linux, HP will no longer honor your warranty. I understand any coverage that may have been provided for Windows (though I doubt there was any, if much), but not fixing the hardware? That's crazy.
