In what has turned into a let-down for the press, John Edwards has not dropped out despite his wife being diagnosed with "uncureable" cancer. There had been rampant speculation all day that this would force the junior senator out of the race.
The main story here is a non-story in my opinion. However, there is a very important story forming here, depending on how John Edwards handles this going forward. Compare an apparently caring husband against the story of Newt Gingrich - another presumptive campaigner for a 2008 nomination - who has left two women in the throes of cancer treatments. Will Edwards follow Newt's example, and put his career ahead of his wife's good? Or will he put his family first, and maybe be willing to leave the race to take care of her if needed? There is a saying that anyone who will do what it takes to be president, isn't worth of the office. I am not sure at this point what that means for a man like Edwards.
