That's Your Defense?

I've mostly kept quiet about the torture issues in Iraq and the people involved. While I condemn the torture outright, I believe that there have been enough shrill voices making this out to be the worst thing that America has ever done. Sullivan's heart has got to be about ready to explode from all the stress he's under, carrying the burden of America's sin upon his shoulders.

Personally, I can think of many things much worse that America has been responsible for over the years. I love this country, but we've made some real mistakes. Treating terrorists and "insurgents" in a humiliating matter doesn't really compare in the big scheme of things. It shouldn't have happened and there's no excuse for it. But they still have their heads, that's better then prisoners captured by their side can say. I have no problem with humiliating prisoners if it means more information about their buddies who are planning on killing American soldiers. Frankly, anything short of torture is fine with me, especially in dealing with people who haven't signed, and don't play to honor, the Geneva Conventions that liberals are suddenly so in love with.

Regardless, this is just stupid. Of all the defenses that there might be out there, to argue as this lawyer is just doesn't rank. We're comparing prisoners to cheerleaders? Unless you're Rush, you don't think this was just a frat style hazing. And it seems that passing it off as such is a poor defense.
