EA's Quest for Monopoly Continues

Rmember back when "EA Sports - It's in the game" was on the lips of every kid on the block? I'm no sports junkie, but I have spent many hours watching my brother playing various incarnations of the EA series of games. EA built an empire producing quality games and produing THE BEST games in the market. They were a company to be respected. I even bought stock in them.

But recently, EA was threatened by a series of inexpensive games in the ESPN line produced by Sega. The strategy was to produce quality games for $20 less than EA was doing. EA's marketshare began to slip, and the gamemaker - already hit hard by the Hockey lockout - decided to take action. By making better games for smaller prices? Nope. By negotiating exclusive deals with the NFL and now... with ESPN themselves.

I guess with Microsoft paving the way to monopoly with "by any means necessary" business practices, EA has decided to become the Microsoft of sports games. CRChair noted this is probably why Microsoft themselves chose to abandon their line of sports games.
