Abu Abbas, presumed heir of Yasser Arafat's political power, has decided to throw in his lot with the terrorists and militants. I suppose since he was Arafat's hand-picked successor it is not a complete shock, but it is a disappointment. After the passing of the old guard, there is a chance for an entirely new start for peace. Sharon seems ready, Israel seems ready, but it appears the Palestinian leadership is only ready for more bloodshed, anger, hatred, and death.
Maybe this is just a political move, to get the militants behind him before he comes out for true peace. Sort of a only-Nixon-could-go-to-China sort of thing. But somehow I doubt it. I suspect, based on this and other recent signs, that Abbas is pretty eager to take on Arafat's corruption and fortune instead.
