G.I. Joe Banned from Baseball

According to the Associated Press, G.I Joe has been banned from the Minnesota Twins baseball park. In an attempt to honor our brave soldiers in Iraq (and do a little merchandising for Hasbro) the Twins planned to give out G.I Joe figures to the first 5,000 kids into the ballpark. The action figure was to be Duke, "the calm and determined battlefield commander of the G.I. Joe team". But area activists were enfuriated at this percieved endorsement of war in general and the Iraq War specifically. "It's not a credible way to honor those who've suffered the inhumanity of war," said Phil Steger, executive director of Friends for a Non-Violent World, a St. Paul-based group with about 4,000 members in Minnesota.

You gotta love it. Can I protest the next time they are handing out promotional drink cups at a game because of the "perceieved" endorsement of drinking? What about protesting the American flag giveaway for "percieved" jingoism? Maybe I could protest the giveaway of miniature baseball bats, because such weapons are occasionally used by gang members in fights? C'mon people. Have some common sense. This is nothing about endorsing war. This is all about selling more Cobra Commander figures for the next big birthday party in St. Paul!
