Mutually Assured Destruction 2.0

I know it will horrify many people to learn that Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore are competing to build the next generation of nuclear weapons. But personally, I am glad. An outdated arsenal (read: bombs which will no longer go off) is a useless arsenal, and while the USA does not have another Superpower to compete against today, it is only a matter of time. Nuclear deterrence only makes sense when we can be sure that any enemy using such a bomb knows it means their own destruction. In light of the Iranian nuclear program (which is likely to lead to leaked plans to other terrorist states), we need to make sure we are ready for any challenge.
