Terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the coalition's most wanted man in Iraq, was killed in an airstrike near Baquba, jubilant U.S. and Iraqi authorities announced Thursday.Assuming this has been verified - and I doubt they'd be so certain if not - the news is monemtous. It is possible the insurgency will be fine without this man, but it will have lost a major leader and public leader. It also may be a turning point for the November elections, as a decisive victory may change public perceptions of the War in Iraq.
Al-Zarqawi's death gives Iraq a chance to "turn the tide" in the fight against the nation's insurgency, President Bush said at the White House.
Now if only it could do something about gas prices.
