A Valerie Plame movie...really?

There is a growing trend in Hollywood of making movies that try to prosecute President Bush but then fail miserably. Well, they're up to it again with of all things a biopic about Valerie Plame. It's been well noted that Ms. Plame couldn't have been that important of a person in the CIA if she is able to be as public as she has been, but a movie about her? Movies about people who haven't died yet are generally bad unless it's an extraordinary personality. I don't believe that Ms. Plame falls into the category of extraordinary personality. Aside that the topic is probably destined to fail, if it needed another sign of failure, Nicole Kidman will be playing the lead. I hope they don't plan on making any money here. Ugh!

  1. I agree 100%. The "Bash Bush" movies, with the exception of Fahrenheit 9/11, have done very poorly. Everyone already knows how they feel about GWB, and they have moved on and are venting their concerns in the Primaries. This is beating a dead horse. And not with a stick that is likely to shake out any dollars.

  2. It is probably a movie that one Film executive really wants to make. In the end, I would guess that it will be released either directly to DVD or to HBO. I can't imagine many theatre owners thinking a movie on this topic will make them much money.

  3. I think it is someone's idea of payback. They "suffered" under the "Bush Attack Machine", so the least we can do is give them a lucrative movie contract. Sheesh.

  4. "hot" woman, intrigue, outing of a "spy", involvement at the highest levels of political power... sounds like a good thriller until you actually look at the facts.

I expect this will very much be "based" on true events... and I would hazard that "based" is pushing the term quite a bit. More like "used real names... not much else".

  5. yeah, i totally expect the advertisements to make it sound like nick's first description. the actual film will end up being preachy and heavy handed with the "facts".
