The
Post Office announced today that the price of
first class mail will go up 1 cent to 42 cents. This change occurs May 12th. The more the cost of snail mail goes up, the less cost effective it becomes. The other levels of mail will also have price increases.
Is it just me, or is this the third or fourth increase in the last year? Every time I turn around, they are jacking up the price. I realize costs are up, but the steady increases can't be doing anything for their bottom line and/or their customer base.
YanıtlaSilthis is a bad thing. Letters are still an important part of our society.
YanıtlaSilthe thing is, stuff will always need to be shipped. their customer base isn't going anywhere. nobody else does regular mail. ups/fedex only do parcels so the usps has functionally no competition in the mail department. plus even with the rate increases, their rates are still lower than ups or fedex on parcels.
YanıtlaSilIf you think you have it bad, its worse here in the UK. Our post office was privatised years ago (Its no longer called the Royal Mail) - and privatisation left a company with a need to turn a profit, and an infrastructure that did unprofitable things like provide everyone with a local post office. Since then, its been one continuous downsizing, with a big branch-closure program over the last two years or so that resulted in my local post office closing. Then the next most local. Then the next after that. Its reached the point where if I want to go to the post office I have to walk half an hour each way. An inconvenience for me, but a great problem for those dependent on the PO to collect pensions or benefits, and the disabled or infirm.
YanıtlaSilThis is, of course, in addition to price rises, particually for the highest levels of service which used to run at a loss in order to encourage mail-order businesses.
