Don't Go Joe

A number of publications are reporting that Joe Lieberman may be considering a jump to the Republican Party over his own party's stance regarding the Iraq War, and specifically their strategy to de-find it while the troops are still there. When Jim Jeffords switched parties during a 50-50 Senate, I criticized him harshly. I said that the people of his state elected him as an Independent, and he should remain one. Switching so soon after an election is not reflecting a long-standing change, but rather the worst kind of political opportunism. Now that Joe is allegedly considering a jump to my party I have to say my views are no different. Joe had a chance to run as a Republican, and had he run the odds are EXCELLENT that he would have been the nominee. He was actively courted by most of the political powers in CT. But now that he has stuck around as a Dem, he should remain a Dem. At least until the next Senatorial campaign.
