Europe to Monitor US Elections

I suppose it was inevitable after the insanity in Florida in 2000, but CNN is reporting that an "international" team of observers will be deployed to monitor US elections. The organization is the "Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe" or OSCE, with which we signed a treaty in 1990. Secretary of State Colin Powell has apparently invited them in, under pressure from Democratic partisans.

You gotta love it. We have a free press, a strong voting infrastructure, and an independent court system, all dedicated to monitoring elections to ensure fairness and a just outcome. But 2000 has an outcome that one side dislikes (even though it has been validated several times over) so we have to call in Europeans to monitor our elections. I guess most folks would argue there can be no harm in this, but somehow it makes me uncomfortable and like we are admitting that after 200+ years of being the freest nation on earth, we really don't know what we are doing.
