Wanna Bet?

For weeks, we've had to endure cries of "It's all political!" and "The President is just trying to scare us!" and so on. I wonder how many of those Congress members are still so sure of themselves now that they've been told that they are likely targets? I'm sure that they will take no chances with their own safety. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in the office when the news comes down. I can only imagine what they'd say.
Secret Service: Um, sir. We might have a problem.

Politician: Yes, what is it?

SS: Well, we've got credible evidence that the terrorists might be planning an attack within the states and it could happen soon. It's older info, from a couple of years ago.

Politician: HA! This is just more of the right's politics of fear. I'm not even going to respond! I won't live in fear of Bushitler!

SS: Well sir, the problem is that the terrorists have threatened to attack members of Congress while they travel.

Politician: Order me a tank right away.
It's easy to play politics when you aren't the one threatened. But it's time that our elected officials (who are responsible to us, after all) remember what it's like to be an average American who doesn't have all the protections that they do. When the shoe's on the other foot, it's a little harder to play politics. We can only hope that people will teach Congress a lesson at the polls in November and remind our leaders of this truth.
