It's being reported that Frankenkerry has taken up President Bush's challenge and officially said that he would still have supported the war, knowing what he now knows. This baffles my mind. How much longer will Kerry supporters let him get away with this? He criticizes the President for doing something, but then claims that he would have still voted the same way. Shouldn't his supporters be going ape over this? Isn't this a sell out to what they hold near and dear...The idea that the invasion was wrong and immoral, etc? Is the anti-Bush vote that strong that they will elect a man who is going to do the same thing just with a different name?
Or is there something else going on? Could it be that those supporting Kerry realize something that the rest of us suspect but don't say in polite company? Namely, that Frankenkerry is a liar? Do they see his capitulation to the hawks not as a true new direction for their candidate but instead as a way to convince the middle-of-the-road voters that he's not so bad? Do they believe that after his election, he would actually undermine the Iraqi operation and pull our troops out? He has said clearly that he would not.
Yet this war is what Bush's opponents claim the election is all about. He has to be voted out because he is a horrible war-monger who led us into an illegal war. So, if they're going to support Frankenkerry, then they must believe that he will pull out of Iraq. Could he be sending these signals to his loyal followers? Who knows. I know I don't buy his new found macho persona. I also know that if he is elected President and pulls out of Iraq or even fails to commit to Iraq and we lose, he'll be a one term President. Not because of Iraq per se, but because the terrorists will have won that battle and, being emboldened, will launch a whole new wave of terror against us.
