Top Secret iBook Problems?

This article documents a little-known problem with the 2001-series of iBooks. Apparently, there is known issue with "the inverter cable/reed switch component" but Apple's standard fix is a complete screen replacement, which costs a TON of money. The poster indicates Small Dog Electronics sells a kit which fixes the issue permanently.

After putting the iBook on the back burner for awhile, and looking at the various Power Mac G4s (we own one of these and it has been solid), I stumbled upon an Apple Discussion Board thread about this problem, and many were able to get the specific part for a mere $20 from Small Dog Electronics. I figured that I would give it a try and that in the worst-case, I'd be out $20. Apple Part #922-5017 was sent to me and I received it yesterday.

A cheap fix for an expensive problem. Good to know, especially as most of the iBook owners I know are not exactly rolling in cash. Most are students and/or people with smaller incomes who want a secure and easy-to-use computer, with no hassles.
