Scott Adam's Dilbert comic strip has immortalized a character especially "beloved" (*clear throat indicating sarcasm*) of anyone who has spent any time on the web in chatrooms or discussion boards: the "flamer". For those not used to the term, it is a person who is mild mannered - even kind and exceptionally gentle - in real life, but who uses e-mail, chatrooms, or discussion boards as a vent for all of the personal frustrations in their lives. Often with the use of gratuitous profanity.
Next up is probably the "troll". This is that particular form of degenerate internet life who haunts chatrooms or discussion boards only to post comments they know will bring the flamers out of the woodwork. Comments such as "All moderates are a bunch of whiny weaklings who are unable to make up their minds!" on a board run by Moderates. Here at Mod-BLog we are the gentle types, but such comments are considered to be worth of capital punishment... unless of course we are opposed to capital punishment that week.
