A gunman shot four staff members at a missionary training center near Denver early Sunday, killing two, after being told he couldn't spend the night. About 12 hours later and 65 miles away in Colorado Springs, a gunman fatally shot a parishioner at a megachurch and wounded four other people before a guard killed him, police said.I'll be praying for the families of those who lost their lives, and the members of the church and missionary office who are suffering today.
One of the hospitalized victims from the second attack died Sunday at about 10:10 p.m., said Amy Sufak, a spokeswoman for Penrose Community Hospital in Colorado Springs.
The police chief in Arvada, a suburb about 15 miles west of Denver where the mission workers were shot, said the shootings may be related to those in Colorado Springs but declined to elaborate.

4 Killed in Missionary/Church Shootings
Still not sure what to make of this, but hoping it is an isolated nut and not the start of something larger.

I have several friends that go to New Life in Colorado Springs. Some of them are also staff members at WYWAM at New Life, so this hits extremely close to home for me. One of my friends was supposed to be ushering at this service and another goes to that service with his wife. Fortunately none of them were hurt, but this is pretty scary. My sister, who lives in CS let us know about it about as early as was possible, so it's been on my mind a lot in the past 24 hours.
YanıtlaSilYou hear little about the beefed up security at the church in response to the first shooting that probably saved many lives.
YanıtlaSilfunny how the media just glosses over that fact. i've been to the church many times and never noticed that the security were armed. i guess it's a good thing they are and that they know how to use their weapons.
YanıtlaSilHow long until someone pulls out "turn the other cheek" as a reason to accuse the guards of immorality?
YanıtlaSilI actually don't think that will happen. In this case I think that people will let it slide, because the guard saved lives. If he had started shooting and did nothing then there would be some criticism, but since he took down the shooter he'll probably be heralded as a hero - or at least he should be.
YanıtlaSilActually, it was a woman. So SHE will be a hero. :-)
YanıtlaSillatest word is that it was the same shooter in both cases. in some ways it's comforting to know that at least the killer isn't on the loose.
YanıtlaSilthank you for correcting me. i hadn't seen a gender for the security guard in the stories i had read.
That is because "church security guard thwarts disaster" doesn't sell as much as "christians bleeding in the streets"
