So far, my experience with the Sony PSP (PlayStation Portable) shows that it blows away the Nintendo DS at every turn. Graphics are incredible - Sony PlayStation 2 level, easily. Sound is great (if a bit quiet). The ability to show pictures from iPhoto and music from iTunes a great plus. And the games themselves are clearly better and in stronger supply than the Nintendo DS. But, I am sad to report that the Sony PSP is already showing itself to less reliable than the DS. I charged up my PSP and brought it along on the Quiz Meet this weekend. It was borrowed and used by eager teens until the battery ran dry. I brought it back to the house to charge and... nothing! It won't accept a charge from anywhere! I did troubleshooting with my brother's PSP - swapping out peripherals until we had isolated the problem - and it is clear that the battery is fine, screen is fine, sound is fine, etc. It is just the charging hardware which is DOA. Luckily, I bought it thru ebgames.com, so I should be able to return it to my local EB store for a swap with a new unit.
But it shows that there is a weakness to the Goliath that is the PSP. It does not have the extreme durability that has been the trademark of the Nintendo Gameboy brand.
