Who said that leadership makes no difference? In the absence of Yasser Arafat, it appears that Israelis and Palestinians have hammered out a cease fire. This is something that was not allowed once Mr. Arafat declared his "intifada" and was locked inside his compound. Do you think this is a coincidence? Not likely.
Now, the next question is how long the cease fire can last. It is likely this is just a momentary calm between storms. But there is always hope that Iraqi elections may have motivated the Palestinians to find their own legitamacy in the region.
