Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean appears to have virtually locked up the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee, after his last major challenger dropped out of the race and endorsed him Friday night....With Fowler's departure, the only candidate still in the race against Dean is former Rep. Tim Roemer of Indiana, also a member of the 9/11 commission. However, Roemer has garnered few endorsements from the Democratic rank and file, and he has drawn fire from abortion rights supporters in the party's base because of his personal opposition to abortion.Amazing. Apparently, it is more important to be the Pro-Abortion party than to actual have a leader who can win. Several years back I cast a vote for the Pro-Life Party here in CT, and folks accused me of throwing my vote away. Well, in the next election, it appears anyone who casts a vote for the Dems is actually voting for the one-issue Pro-Choice Party.
And of course, one must find it highly ironic that it is in the shadow of the biggest justification of the Iraq War ever - the Iraqi elections - that Democrats choose to elevate the one man who has unapologetically opposed the Iraq War from day 1. This is like elevating an avowed Communist the week after the Berlin Wall fell.
