I did not hear Obama's "Race" speech...

...but can feel the power of the words when reading them. If Obama is not their nominee, the Democrats are crazy. I don't know if he can walk the walk, but he can surely talk the talk. He can articulate the interface between white and black America that too many Democrats (and too many Republicans) like to pretend does not exist. I encourage you to click over and read the full text of the speech.

  1. I actually disagree with you. I read the speech too and did not hear/see him give it. I think part of the speech was great, but the other half made me much less likely to vote for him. I was very unhappy that he tried to equate his Pastor with others who have done said similar things to white audiences as if to say that what his pastor said wasn't that big of a deal. (at least this is what I got from the speech.)

  2. There is some evidence that a lot of people voting for Hillery are Republicans, who want her to win the nomination because she seems easier to defeat in the general election.

    Isn't politics fun?

  3. I have to agree with some of the inflammatory statements of Rev Right... at least if you look at it from a his point of view. Remember that he is 70 and that he grew up in the civil rights era. Now let's look at some of what he said:
The government used blacks were used as lab rats for syphilis experiments; TRUE. So when he says that drugs and aids were created to bring down blacks, you can see where he got the idea from.
9/11 is America's chickens coming home to roost; TRUE... from a certain point of view. This was the same cry from the far right and the far left.
These are two of the most inflammatory things that Rev Right has said, and you can see how they could be sympathized with. We have to remember that a black church is a very different entity than what we are used to. I went to a black church for a few years with my old girlfriend where her father was on the elder board. It was quite an education.

  4. S.R., I actually agree that it is disgusting for Republicans and Conservatives to be voting for Hillary just to make things more complicated for Obama. Rush is 100% wrong on this one, and I think he is just doing it to promote controversy and add listeners. I find it equally disgusting how happy the Clintonites have been to embrace the manipulation when it is in their favor.

But I am curious as to your actual opinion of the speech. Do you think it said the right things, as a person more to the Left?

  5. I think most folks aren't angry about those comments exactly, BH. I think the soundbite that gets them the most steamed up is "God D@#^ America." The rest may be wrong, but it is the ranting of passionate man. But damning America is something we don't want our President to be associated with in any way.

  6. I am not defending the comment, but I am sympathetic to the reasons he said it. He can justify in the Bible what happens when a nation turns from the "ways of the Lord".

Yes, I also agree that we don't want that associated with a president.
