Beating the expectations of the pundits, Hillary Clinton has won the Democratic primary in New Hampshire. Now, we have a true horse race on both sides of the political spectrum.
I think now politics are about to get alot more interesting. McCain stands no chance. He has no support with the Christian right. They just really don't like him. The former dixiecrats are still xenophobic like Lou Dobbs and they really hate the fact that John McCain wants to take Mexicans out of the shadows. So, I see no win for him. Was it really a suprise he won NEw Hampshire? No. He won't get the nomination. As for Hillary, I see no victory here. She is Bill CLinton's wife, for God's sake. If she is ONLY winning by 2 percentage points, she is going to have a hard time. I'm not counting her out by any means, but boy is she not an agent for change. New Hampshire, I don't know about those people.
Can you spell backlash? The press has gone too far trashing Senator Clinton. And I finally accept that you must ignore polls. They are not often right anymore. The those who make a business of polling better find new careers.
As I watched the news last night, I could not help to think of the following scenerio. For the past three days prior to the event held last night, all we heard was how Obama was taking the life out of the sails of Hillary. That every poll had him up as much as 10 percentage points. Well then it hit me, there was never a time when Obama was up, the media created this fabrication so that when Hillary won, it would be a huge gain and swing for her campaign. The media does not want Obama in the white house so to ensure this, they set the following play into motion. The media misslead us viewers as they do about most things, in order to capture your attention and put Hillary on the forefront. Maybe I am the only one that figured this out. I am not yet ready to have another Clinton in office, the first one was enough to last me a lifetime. You all forget all the scandals surrounding this family. Thanks to the first Clinton, half of our military was sent home due to his downsizing, more than 1/3 of our bases were closed, yet you complain about the war as too why so many have to go so often, maybe if he had not cut our forces as dramitically as he did, the need to go overseas as often would not exist. The media has way too much power over what we see and they try to control your opinions based on what they want to see happen. Who do you think has a better story for them to report on daily, Hillary or Obama, choice is clear. I do not want a crybaby leading me into combat, something her husband could not do.
Hillary owes Obama a "Thanks" for teaching her two important lessons:
1- Speeches do work and do get things done or she would have lost NH. 2- Hope is not a four letter word (if she followed her own advice, she would have quit BEFORE the actual NH vote)
My question is, if she is so "experienced", why didn't she know these things already.
I don't know that the media purposely misled us to believe Obama was way in the lead only for him to crash and burn on primary night. I do think that it's possible that the polls were skewed to one demographic or the other that does favor Obama.
Ultimately, I think that Clinton did a good job in the past few of days showing that just because someone's new doesn't mean they'll be a change agent and just because she's been around the block a time or two doesn't mean that she's not a change agent. Her emotional response the other day I think did A LOT. I don't like the woman and even I felt deeply for her during that response.
Lastly, I think it's in the GOP's favor for Clinton to win the nomination. I don't think they can win against the change/hope rhetoric of Obama.
I find it interesting that women voters in Iowa voted for Obama, and women voters in NH voted for Clinton. Is that maybe the Oprah factor? Does Oprah's opinion influence the women in the mid west to such an extent? And do voters in NH speak out their own opinions, and choose not to follow a talk show guru?
Many of the pundits credited Clinton's comeback to crying on TV the night before. If that is really what swayed voters, all women should be alarmed and ashamed. We should be judged on our accomplishments and abilities. Talk about pulling out the "woman" card. I am embarassed for our gender that she is so desperate that she was willing to cry in public to get what she wants. Aren't we better than that now????
I don't think that she purposely cried - that's not her style. I think that it really was a reaction to the question and the fact that she's been pretty much sleep deprived for most of the past 6 months. But you're right that it shouldn't make that much of an impact, but it did. The impact was not because it showed her to be a sissy girl, but because it showed that she's real and has a real desire to be president because she cares - not simply because she's next in the hierarchy.
I disagree with the media speculation. Well in that way. It was the opposite. The right wing media (Rush L, Bill O, tucker, Fox news) is desperate for Obama to win. They will spin anything to make him win. The rest of the media jumped on board for the ride thinking Obama would take over the country with his change message. The reason the right media wingers want obama to win is because he doesn't stand a chance in the general election. The republican attack machine will eat him as a snack in less than a month. Say Guliani wins, (I have no problem with this by the way I think obama could be a great president) the republicans get to put the tough on terrorism guru aganist a man who went Islamic terrorist school in Indonesia (I know the real story a little different but thats how they will spin it if he wins). Guliani won't even need the religious right votes to win that fight. Not to mention Illinois coal company bought obama a house. I know every politician has some bones in the closet, but this is the guy who got legislation through which banned lobbyist from buying politician dinner. If he mentions that again someone in the right media will say "oh but a house is okay?". Everything Hilary has done and everything about her has already been through the republican attack machine and people are still willing to vote for her. They have tried to take her down numerous times and she still was able to become a contender for the president. The right will do anything to take the nomination away from her. Watch, on Fox they will still talk about Obama being the leader and Bill O will continue to tell his listeners what a nicw guy Obama is and how much he likes him. Really Bill O liking a democrat, don't be fooled.
