It seems that some conservatives in the blogsphere are having morning jitters today concerning the election. I wonder how much is reasonable concern and how much is just listening to cocky leftists. There is certainly reason to be concerned. Bush should be soaring ahead of FrankenKerry. The Democrats have run the worst campaign in modern history this time around. It's been poorly advised, poorly managed, and poorly executed. Kerry is a horrid candidate who, on a normal day, could only ever win in his home state. Even that is owed mostly to his ties with the Kennedy family. On the other hand, virtually everyone agrees that if it weren't for Iraq, President Bush would be on the verge of a Reganesque victory. This reflects just how large an albatross this war has apparently become.
But I'm not completely convinced. Liberals are now sticking with a story somewhat devoid from reality. They now claim that the world was united behind us with one voice until Iraq became an issue. Even a foggy memory will recall that there was widespread dissent concerning our invasion of Afghanistan. Other countries protested in mass demonstrations, liberals claimed that the President was "rushing to war" against the Taliban, etc. Sounds familiar, no? Indeed, with the exception of a couple of weeks after 9/11, the left in this country and those around the world have never given this President their support. Bush didn't throw away the support we received from other countries, it was a superficial feel-good move by many of those countries. Le-Monde's now famous "We are All Americans Today" article did express support for our grieving nation. But, in the same article, they blasted our country for it's "reckless" and "dangerous" policies that threatened world peace. It was only a couple of weeks after 9/11 that we found liberals already circulating rumors about "secret Rove plots" or "secret Zionist plots" all detailing how the President had planned the attacks so that he could gain ultimate power. At the very least, they said, the President knew it was coming and didn't do enough.
Don't be fooled by the lunatic left, they never supported this President and never plan to. Their memories of the "good old days" are lies meant to convince us that the left in this country aren't really as out of touch as we all have the sinking feeling that they might be.

2004, Here's to Hoping
I've said before, and I'll say again, I don't believe that our representative democracy can take another 2000 style election fiasco. The lawyers and politicians are ripping apart our process. This election has to be a clear victory, for either candidate, if our system is going to survive. If 2000 happens again, it could finally be the death toll for the electoral college and it will certainly turn both sides even more bitter. Whoever leads will barely be able to make any progress.
Therefore, I'm calling on all Kerry supporters to do your civic duty and give up. It's the only way to ensure that the race isn't close. This way, we can heal the wounds of 2000 and move on with our country in tact. Come on, liberals. Do your civic duty and take one for the team.
For those without a sense of humor, that last paragraph was in jest. The first paragraph I write in all seriousness. However, If you're a Democrat and happen to be reading this, feel free to take my advice on the previous paragraph and stay home.

One Word: VOTE!!!
You know the men, you know their positions, you know their characters. Never in my lifetime has there been an election between men of such divergent viewpoints. Never has there been an election with an enemy more at our throats. Never has there been a time, when men and women must vote to make sure the next 4 years are not wasted.
So, if you are 18 and an American citizen: GET OUT AND VOTE!!!

Who Would Osama Vote For Redux
Wow, when I wrote the "Who Would Osama Vote For?" article a few days back, I was serious but not that serious. But it appears that some new translations of the Election 2004 Osama tape are pretty explicit.
This is sad and should not change any votes in either direction. But it is still infuriating.
MEMRI said radical Islamist commentators monitored over the Internet this past weekend also interpreted the key passage of bin Laden's diatribe to mean that any U.S. state that votes to elect Bush on Tuesday will be considered an "enemy" and any state that votes for Kerry has "chosen to make peace with us." Yigal Carmon, president of MEMRI, said bin Laden used the Arabic term "ay-wilaya" to refer to a "state" in that sentence...That term "specifically refers to an American state, like Tennessee," Carmon said, adding that if bin Laden were referring to a "country" he would have used the Arabic word "dawla."
This is sad and should not change any votes in either direction. But it is still infuriating.

Biggest Lies of 2004
FactCheck.Org (not .Com as popularized by VP Cheney) has up their choices of the worst lies in political ads of 2004. Some of these are on the level of "a certain point of view." (Thank you, Obi-Wan Kenobi's ghost for that bit of wisdom.) But still, it has to make you wonder why no campaign can manage to get elected witout simple truths in simple ways. But maybe it is a simple result of human nature. Fundamentally, we don't want to see our opponents as nice guys worth of a fair hearing, we want to think of them as evil or stupid or deceptive. Yet in most cases, aside from OBL and the butcher of Baghdad, our opponents are just people who see the world differently.

Echoes of Watergate - Another GOP Headquarters Burgularized
Remember when the Democratic party thought that the worst possible offense in the history of democracy was the Watergate break-in associated with Richard Nixon? Well, apparently the "dirty tricks" which were once the worst possible act of fascist opressors are now the regular policy of John Kerry's supporters. Here is one such report where thieves broke into a campaign headquarters and left behind TVs and cash, but took the laptops and cell phones that were part of the Republican get-out-the-vote campaign. It is just sad.
