Apple revamps all iPods, Apple TV

If you missed today's Apple Event(liveblog, video, here are the high points:
  • iTunes 10 announced with new "Ping" social network
  • New (tiny) iPod Shuffle
  • New (tiny) touchscreen iPod Nano
  • New (full sized) iPod Touch with HD camera and FaceTime
  • New Apple TV with streaming, including NetFlix
  • iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iOS 4.2 for iPad with bug fixes, Game Center, and Apple TV integration
Overall, a jam-packed keynote. My quick impressions:
  • Unimpressed with "Ping" - I don't need ANOTHER social network
  • iPod Nano seems almost too small. Teens will miss the camera from the last model.
  • iPod Touch with Cameras will kill the Flip Video market completely. Worthy upgrade.
  • New AppleTV looks nice, but I think I like Roku HD better.
  • Looking forward to iOS 4.1, but 4.2 on iPad may be too late coming in November.
What were your thoughts?

WWDC is today

Those less obsessed with Apple than me may not be aware that today is the first day of Apple's World Wide Developer Conference. Today, at 1 PM EST, Steve Jobs will give the keynote address where he expected to announce:

- the next iteration of the iPhone
- Safari 5, with better HTML 5 support
- iPhoneOS 4
- an updated XCode
- iBooks and possibly NetFlix for iPhone

The keynote will not be streamed live, so if you want to see the announcements check out a liveblog like that of MacRumors.

MacWorld Keynote Info

Sean left this in the comments section, but I thought it was worth escalating his "round-up" of MacWorld Keynote announcements to the front page.
New iPhoto - face recognition, geotagging, facebook & flickr integration

New iMovie - Better editor, image stabalization

iTMS: DRM free music (80% now entire catelog by end of quarter)

MacBook Pro 17"
The other interesting announcement was iWork '09 which includes "iWork.Com" integration, which appears to be a competitor to Google Docs. The Beta will be free, but the eventual service will be pay. Hopefully, the cost will be included in a MobileMe subscription.

Happy MacWorld!

MacWorld officially began yesterday, but today is the "Stevenote" - the annual keynote presentation by Steve Jobs which is traditionally used to announce Apple's biggest products. Last year, it was used to formally announce the iPhone.

This year, the rumor ecosystem is rife with speculation: an ultraportable MacBook, a Mac tablet PC, a souped-up AppleTV (with BluRay or TV recording built-in), online movie rentals, a 3G iPhone, and "Product X - a new game-changer" have all been posited. For now, all we know is that Apple has posted banners which proclaim "Something is in the Air."

Click here for a liveblog of the Stevenote as it happens at 9 AM PST (12 noon EST). It will automatically detect an iPhone or iPod Touch and format itself appropriately.
