I have entered the age of High Definition...

...with a new HD TV (got a GREAT deal on Woot) and a Playstation 3 as a BluRay player. I also christened it with GATACCA on BluRay - the same movie I christened my original DVD player with (though it was one of the only DVDs available at the time). The image and sound quality were excellent!

And I was reminded what a GREAT movie GATACCA is. If you've never seen it, go out and get a copy on VHS, DVD, BluRay, or digital doanload!

  2. Wait... I thought you already had an HD TV?

Whatever... congrats:) They say Blu-Ray is a great format... I can see the difference... but not enough of a difference to buy one just yet.

  3. Nick, We had one for the main room, but not my own room. And BluRay is new. :-)

BH, Parts were sad, but in the end the human spirit triumphed!

  4. BD is amazing, but you need to be careful about the transfers you get. AVS forums have a great thread that is dedicated to rating the image of BDs with a tier system. BD can have the most amazing picture, but sometimes certain companies are just plain lazy. But plenty are just incredible. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds at Radio City Music Hall looks like you are literally there with them.

But really, the best thing about BD is going unnoticed by a lot of consumers, and that is the sound. Because of the 50gig capacity, BDs can carry multiple lossless audio formats. You need have to a recent hdmi receiver to really get the benefit. But if you do have one, the sound quality is what really sets BD apart at this point.
