Laptops Not Meant For Laps

I remember when laptops were fine to put on your lap. You could go for hours, assuming you were plugged into an outlet, and the laptop would not be all that warm. I remember having a laptop that would get warm enough I could use it to take away a slight chill, but still keep it on my lap. I have had a laptop for a couple years now that runs so hot, the case has started to discolor. I don't know that the internal word "lap" still applies. If the idea of the laptop running that hot doesn't dissuade you, there have been recalls of laptop batteries that have the possibility of catching fire and/or exploding. It seems now that there is a chance that laptops, due to their heat, could cause infertility. I normally have my laptop on a desk or some other surface. Even when I have it on my "lap" it's normally further down by my knees. Still, I may think twice before opening my laptop without a table nearby.
