Is today the beginning of the iTablet Era?

Today, Apple reveals their "newest creation". No one knows for sure, but most rumors are predicting a Table Computer from Apple. A few minority sites are predicting new iPod Touches with cameras or a Verizon iPhone. Others are predicting the release of iPhoneOS 4.0, perhaps even a preview of the iPhone 4.0 hardware. Still others, a revamped iTunes Store selling magazines and books. No matter what, this is sure to be an interesting day. If you want to follow along with the announcements, Engadget is offering a liveblog. It is sure to be a day to remember, even if all Steve Jobs does was come onstage, announce a minor upgrade to AppleTV, and humiliate the tech press.

Apple Event - January 27

The Apple Blogsphere has been abuzz for weeks with rumors about a "special event" in late January, which many posited would be the release venue for the new Apple Tablet Computer. Now Apple has sent out official invitations to the event (pictured below). Speculation about the event is running rampant, with FoxNews claiming confirmation that the main announcements will be an Apple Tablet Computer (perhaps called the "iSlate"), details about the iPhone 4.0, and iLife 2010. Whatever is coming, it is sure to be more exciting and notable than the annual Consumer Electronics Show which closed out recently, and failed to generate much buzz for new products (mostly because the tech journalists were breathlessly awaiting the next big thing from Apple).

Happy WWDC Day!

WWDC bannerToday is a very exciting day for Mac Geeks and Apple Fanboys all over the world. It is the kickoff to WWDC - WorldWide Developers Conference. This is the annual event where Apple Computer has typically launched its big products for the year. Most notably for the last two years, it has been the event that launched the Apple iPhone and the Apple iPhone 3G. The keynote - the big presentation where the announcements are made - is scheduled for 10 AM PDT (about 1 PM EST). You can follow along at MacRumors.Com LiveBlog if you wish.

Moscone WestThe most current rumors are up at DaringFireball.Net where John Gruber predicts the new iPhone will be called the iPhone 3GS (earlier rumors had it pegged as the "iPhone Video). He predicts 2X the RAM and 2X the processor speed, 15-20% longer battery life, and iPhone tethering (already confirmed in the iPhone 3.0 software). Other sites are predicting integrated video camera (and autofocus digital camera) including possibly the long-awaited integration of video iChat.

We shall see. It should be an interesting day.

MacWorld is today

The majority of our readers who care are probably already aware that the MacWorld Expo (the last one Apple will attend) is scheduled for today. While Steve Jobs is NOT presenting - Phil Schiller has the honors instead - there are a huge number of rumors about what Apple is certain/probable/doubtful to release today to change the face of computing (or maybe just increase their profit margin slightly on existing product lines). The hottest include: official AT&T tethering plan for iPhone, new Mac Mini, new iMacs, and Tablet Mac based on the iPhone platform.

You can keep an eye on the MacRumors live feed around 9 AM PST (noon EST) to see what actually is announced.

Alleged photos of the 3G IPhone online

CrunchGear is at it again. They were amng the first to leak the iPod Nano "Fatty" pictures, and now they are leaking what appears to be the new 3G iPhone in picture form. It looks surprisingly good, but that is never an assurance it is not Photoshopped. The big news on this one is black and project (red) versions, and a front-facing camera for video phone calls via iChat!

It is going to be a long weekend, waiting for the Monday keynote.

Clues to the Live Action Star Wars TV Show

I don't know about other Mod-Bloggers, but I still love Star Wars. I enjoyed the admittedly imperfect prequels, I loved the Clone Wars cartoons, and I still read an Expended Universe novel from time to time. I also have hopes for the announced CGI and live action television shows. Now, some new details may have been leaked about the shows.
- The live action and animated shows will be considered official canon of the star wars universe...
- The seasons for the live action show might be as short as 12 episodes… again…think Sopranos.
- The show is definitely PG-13. I’ve heard it’ll be dark. It’s definitely not being made for kids.
- The Skywalker story is finished. From what I’ve been told, their story is done and they aren’t on the live-action show at all. The show is new characters…with a few people you might know from the movies mixed in here and there.
I am eager to see what more Sir George has for us. I am hoping it can restore the faith of many fans whose love was killed by Jar-Jar Binks.
