The Role of the Rinos

John Hawkins considers the role that the Rinos are to play in the SCOTUS nomination battle with the Democrats. I think he's right on and the piece is worth consideration. Of course, it will all depend on what President Bush is willing to do. I suspect that he will pick this fight, finally.

Happy Independence Day-After!

Sorry for no posts on the 4th. While the rest of the staff was enjoying "Independence" from the Internet, I was working all weekend and the boss requested that everyone stay OFF of the web (we were doing some MONSTROUS file transfers over the network). So, it may be a day late, but I wanted to wish America a *VERY* happy birthday and say that I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th.

Stanley Hauerwas Interviewed

I was made aware of this interview with Stanley Hauerwas. Dr. Hauerwas is one of the premier Christian ethicists in the country if not the world. He is a constant challenge to me and my Christianity. I had the priveledge of hearing him speak at this years Wesleyan Theological Society meeting where he spoke about "Sanctification as a Corporate Event of the Church" among other things. Nonetheless this is an interesting article focusing on his new book on Dietrich Bonhoeffer, but also covers many other things that Stanley believes.

How Do You Make Sean Into Boba Fett?

I don't know if this works in any way, shape, or form. But it surely looks cool!

The trader with Fubon Securities miskeyed in a small order from Merrill Lynch on Monday, creating confusion when many small companies inexplicably surged past the 7 percent trading limit.
"Something like this is difficult to explain to superiors," a Fubon executive said Tuesday.
This is why I am thankful I have a job where the worst that can happen from one of my mistakes is a big error in some code. Which still has to pass through several layers of QA testing before it ever sees the light of day. Then again, at least this was not a mistake which cost anyone their life or their health!

Hungry for Seafood?

Fishermen in Thailand have caught a catfish the size of a grizzly bear. To me it appears to be the size of my brother's Chevy Impala! It may be the largest freshwater fish ever caught. I can only imagine who... uh, I mean WHAT... they used for bait.

Supremes Minus One

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has announced her resignation as a member of the Supreme Court. President Bush has promised to bring out his replacement in a timely manner. Here is hoping that (1) this is not another Justice Souter-type nominee and (b) it is a nomination that stays out of the worst parts of the political wars.
